LIONS CLUB WEEK OF 12/3/06

Program/Speaker

• Dr. Lance Keith of WTAMU Ag Education Department
• 
• Came to WTAMU in January of 2002.spends 25% of his time doing 4H and FFA.  Dr. Keith loves to teach, recruit and travel.  His favorite Christmas movie is “Vacation”…says it’s a classic.
• Ag Education is important because of the national shortage of Ag/Science Teachers…this is not just a Texas thing it is a National thing as well.
• As of today Ag Enrollment is growing by leaps and bounds
• When Dr. Keith started in 2002, there were a total of 8-10 students enrolled in Ag Education, in 2005 there were 100 + students and 2006 there was a small decline in enrollment of 20 or so students but that is because the class in 2002 graduated 20 student.
• WTAMU dairy is a 100 plus acres and has built a new facility from primarily private donations.  The new facility is 10,000 square feet in area and has an Ag Mechanic’s Lab and a multi purpose classroom.
• The new Ag facility will provide summer classes for those in the community wanting to learn welding and other skills.

• Dan Hall says it’s safe to get your “Dallas Cowboy” gear out.
• WTAMU Horse judging team has won 6 consecutive National Reining Horse Judging competition…this has never been done before. there is a traveling trophy that has been residing at WTAMU for 5 years previous to the judging in Oklahoma City this year so will have had the trophy for 6 years.
• Canyon Eagles for winning the Quarter Finals game in Lubbock last Saturday against Andrews 56-28.

• Prayer request for Ronald Davis father of Queen Susan Davis.
• George Sader said there is T-shirts in both the first and second order that could be picked up and paid for.
• Andy 5% Hix says we have one last play-off game on Friday Night..members helping should be there around 6:00 as the game starts at 7:00.  Stratford will play Idalou both teams are 12-1.  And on the play-off game note we have had 9 games this year, which is double what, Dick Bivens stadium had so we must be doing something right.   Andy also would ask that if you have any suggestions for improvement at the play-off games next year please voice them to someone in charge of the area of concern. 
• Board meeting at Big Earls 12/7/06 at noon tomorrow.  Please mark your calendars and attend.  As one of the items we will discuss will be a donation to the Canyon Eagles for expenses in going to the Semi-Final game in Sweetwater.
• Dan Hall gave to Fern Hefner a patch for the Panhandle Lion Tamers to be sewn in the appropriate place on one of our banners.
