Program/Speaker Brian Howser Amarillo Baptist Association |
· Brian has lived in Canyon 2 ½ years. He resides in the Canyon Country Club. Brian came to give us some information regarding AIDS in Africa….he previously lived in Africa for several years. There are 55 countries on the continent of Africa. · Aids is rampant in Africa because there is much denial. · Things are not likely to change very much until the culture can be changed and changing a culture is very difficult. Change does not happen quickly. · The president of Africa has for years denied there was an AIDS problem…when he did acknowledge it, the US or Europe was somehow responsible for this dilemma. · Promiscuity is accepted as the culture dictates that a woman will not be desirable as a mate until she can prove she can bear children. · Often people infected with HIV will first visit the local “witch doctor” and fail to seek professional medical attention until it is too late. · Average life span in Africa is 37 years. · 47% of the people in Africa are under the age of 15. · People spending lots of money on the AIDS humanitarian effort to give these people hope are Bill Gates and the Clinton Foundation. · There will be an estimated 40 million orphans in Africa by the 2010. |
Queens Fine Time |
· Andy Hix and Mike Wartes for being the cutest couple and because the Queen did not have a date. · Mandy Williams for being the first in line for food at the banquet. · Bob Lindsey for not noticing that the jacket he rushed out and purchased for the banquet still had a tag on the sleeve. · Dan Shuman for yelling “speech” while Queen Regan was on the stage at the banquet…she was not prepared to speak and said “Thank You!” about 6 times… · Danny Smith for implying that the Queen was out of control on Wednesdays, so he felt the need to bring the Queen Mother to the luncheon. · Jeremy Paul for not knowing there was NOT a Cole Intermediate School here in Canyon…shame, shame. · George Deckard and Steve Lawrence because their shirts, beautiful as they are, do not look good sitting side by side…they clashed big time. · Everyone who did not attend the sweetheart banquet. · We need to find that “witch doctor” to see if he can do something about shrinking Bob Lindsey’s head.

Lions Pride |
· W.T. Lions Club is having a fund raiser…opportunities for $5.00 each 3 for $10.00 this is the only fundraiser they will have. · Paula Davis’s Canyon Creek Soap Company is going to be featured in “high end” baskets at the Ashmore Inn starting next week. · Marshall Elliott-Linda Elliott’s grandson’s basketball team advanced to regionals. |
